The collection includes such well -known folk tales in Germany as “Fairy of the Stream”, “The Seeker of the treasure”, “The Tale of the Three Sisters”, “Rihild” and “Legends of the Rubetsal”. They were recorded in the XIX century. The German teacher Johann Karl Augustus Museus and remain popular in most European countries today. All texts are illustrated by drawings of a talented French artist Albert Robid.
The fairy tales included in this collection were carefully recorded by Johann Karl Augustus Museus. He was born in 1735 and studied at the University of Jena, where he studied theology. However, a strict shepherd of human souls from the young man did not work out. Karl loved noisy parties, dances, and the company of beauties, as a result, Sutan had to be changed to a costume of a modest gymnasium teacher. Museus began to teach in Weimar. Working in this field, he took up literature and at the same time began to collect folk traditions. Karl asked his students to retell the tales that they heard in early childhood. Then the entire collected ethnographic material was carefully processed, gaining a literary form. At the same time, Karl was very careful about the original texts, as a result of a fairy tale in his presentation, neither the national character nor the charm of his simplicity was lost. Literary activity brought fame to Karl. In his small cozy house, which the museus himself called the Fei Castle, was frequent by writers and poets. The collection of folk German fairy tales he gathered has withstood many publications. It still attracts the attention of readers, and not only in Germany. With the completion of a long work on processing the collected traditions, the life of the museum itself ended. He died in 1787, and was buried in the Weimar cemetery.
The book adorns many illustrations of the French artist Albert Robid. He began to draw at school. Albert was the son of a carpenter who lived near Paris in a small town of compires. The boy’s father insisted that his son learn to a notary public, but Alber was not to the liking of the laws of laws. He decided to professionally engage in drawing, and did not lose. The young man began to cooperate with French satirical magazines, he got excellent caricatures. When it was tired of drawing the given topics of Robid, in 1880 he organized his own satirical magazine - “La caricatures”. There were very few texts in it, everything was clear to readers and without words. On the pages of the “lacal”, Robid began to portray futuristic mechanisms and apparatus, and later became the author of books in which the French opened amazing paintings of the future, which seemed at the same time incredible and attractive. Such work was given Robid easily - after all, he was a “fabulous” artist, and therefore undertook to illustrate the collection of museum. The artist lived a long life, not reaching his eighty -year anniversary for only two years
