Vsevolod Mikhailovich Garshin (1855-1888) - Russian writer, poet, art critic. A pleasant valley of the Yekaterinoslav province (territory of modern Ukraine) in the family of an officer, a participant in the Crimean war was born on the estate.
A significant impact on life and worldview V.M. Garshin was given a family drama, which he experienced at the age of five. His mother fell in love with P.V. Zavadsky, who was engaged in the upbringing of older children in the Garshin family. Zavadsky was the organizer of a secret political society, and when he was exiled to Petrozavodsk, Garshin"s mother left her family and moved to Petersburg to be able to visit the exiled.
Having graduated from the gymnasium in 1874, V.M. Garshin entered the Mining Institute, but the Russian -Turkish war that began in 1877 interrupted his studies - V.M. Garshin entered the army volunteered. His personal impressions of the war formed the basis of the story "Four days" (1877), which was published in the journal "Domestic Notes" - this is the name of V.M. Garshin became known to the whole of Russia. In 1878, he resigned, and literature became his main business.
Stories V.M. Garshin critics were often called poems in prose. The writer was distinguished by a special talent to create bright and figurative metaphors, transforming everyday situations into philosophical stories. Confirmation of this is the history of the creation of the Tale of toad and Rose "(1884) Once V.M. Garshin was visiting his friend, poet Y. Polonsky, where the famous composer of that time A. Rubinstein played. Opposite the musician there is an unpleasant look of an official who looked at A. Rubinstein with discontent. Under the influence of this contrast of the Creator and an unpleasant person, the writer was born the image of the confrontation of a disgusting toad and a beautiful rose.
