Osip Emilievich Mandelstam (1891-1938) - one of the largest Russian poets of the 20th century, prose writer and translator, essayist, critic, literary critic. Mandelstam’s poetry received world fame before and regardless of publications in the Soviet Union: his verses and articles on the problems of history and culture were published abroad. So, Vladimir Nabokov called Mandelstam "the only poet of Stalinist Russia". In 1933 he was arrested for the first time and exiled for the political epigram, and died in prison after the second arrest.
The collection includes the prosaic works of Osip Mandelstam - five autobiographical stories, as well as essays and articles about world culture, mainly about poetry. Through deeply personal memories, Mandelstam recreates a picture of the world rapidly decaying on the wave of the revolution
