Samoilov seemed to consciously “conceal” his verses of the 1940s, publishing only very few. He considered them still immature, which was confirmed by the cool assessments of his friends, who once enthusiastically accepted his youth, pre-war verses. However, in recent years, the perception of his early poetry is changing. Of course, the verses are uneven, which is characteristic of student, but among them there are many brilliant, with powerful, fresh breath, underestimated by contemporaries, since they were ahead of their time. The purpose of the book, uniting his compositions of the 1930-1940s with diary records of poets and poetry, is to show the dynamics of the author’s creative development, to clearly demonstrate, as a poet, in his own words, “prepared as prepared”.
