The artist and journalist Yuri Konstantinovich Artsybushev (1877-1952) was a witness and chronicler of the greatest changes in the Russian public life of the February and October 1917, civil war, the first wave of emigration. On his masterfully accurate sketches from nature, people of various political views are impartially captured, from members of the Provisional Government and white generals to the Chekists, Makhnovtsy and peasant deputies. His creative heritage is a genuine portrait of a complex and contradictory era in the history of Russia.
