Valentine Rasputin’s story "Life" and "Live and Remember" - works of incredible strength and depth that became the classics of Russian literature of the second half of the 20th century.
The old woman Anna lives on its last term: behind her, she has a "simple" peasant life, former "either joy, then torment." But the experience accumulated for this life remains uneshused: the children of the old women, gathered at the bed of their mother, grew up in people, outsiders of each other and herself. Blood intimacy, memory and connection of generations are lost, and they were replaced by callousness, insufficiency and misunderstanding, soullessness and soullessness - to this drama, when everyone feels "nothing", the author attracts the attention of the reader.
Like the old woman Anna, the heroine of the story "Live and remember" Nasten is alone among people. The story of a woman, ready to divide her husband’s guilt and to suffer with him, the writer Viktor Astafyev called “something amazing in skill, penetration into the soul of a person, on the language and the huge task that Valentin Rasputin took upon himself and his heroes.”
