The poem by Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol (1809–1852) “Dead Souls” is a panoramic picture of life in Rus", vividly echoing with the present time. Using satirical and ironic techniques, the author masterfully creates portraits of landowners, describes Russian characters and customs. The names of the main characters have become household, such maneules, boxes, plumbers, nostrils, Sobakevichs and Chichikovs, we still meet. And the poetic image of a three bird became the immortal symbol of Russia, rapidly rushing, as the author hopes, into a bright future.
