Anatoly Borisovich Mariengof (1897-1962) is better known to the modern reader as the author of novels and memoir prose, but he began as a poet-Imazhinist, who expressed his attitude to the changes in the country in shocking, often scandalous images. Theory and poetry were reinforced by practice - the antics of the Imazhinists rattled throughout Moscow. This period was also marked by the friendship of Mariengof with another poet and the “hooligan” - Sergey Yesenin. It was Yesenin who became the main character of his “Roman without a lie” (1926) and the addressee of many poems.
The whole “big” prose of Anatoly Mariengof came into the present publication: the memoir “novel without lies”, “cynics” (1928) - a novel that appeared according to Joseph Brodsky, “one of the most innovative works in Russian fiction of this century ”, No less“ cynical ”“ shaved man ”(1929), as well as a model of late creativity - the historical novel“ Catherine ”(1936) In addition, the book includes poems of different years, along with the programmatic article about the Imazhinism “Buyan-Ostrov”, the tragedy of “Fools" Conspiracy” and memoirs, including the large-scale narrative “My age, my youth, my friends and friends” in the latest author"s edition 1960 of the year
