Sergei Yesenin (1895–1925) was born in a peasant family in the village of Konstantinov, the Ryazan province. He began to write poetry from the age of nine. At eighteen he sent them to the editorial offices and, according to him, was surprised that his works were not printed. Then he “struck” to St. Petersburg, went straight to the bloc, which the fresh, “vocal” verses of the talented poet-samorod really liked it. Soon, all -Russian glory came to Yesenin. After the revolution, in popularity with Yesenin, only Mayakovsky could compare with Yesenin, nevertheless, the “last poet of the village” felt like a stranger in the country of Soviets. He passed away young, at the peak of creative forces. The circumstances of Yesenin’s tragic fate cannot be separated from myths, but his penetrating lyrics still touch his confessional sincerity and purity. This edition presents selected poems and poems by Sergey Yesenin
