Childhood of S. T. Aksakov fell at the end of the 18th century. The writer turned to the memories of the earliest years of his life in his declining years, after the creation of the "Family Chronicle", writing "childhood years of Bagrov-Vyuka" as its continuation. “I didn’t come up with anything better,” he wrote to Turgenev in 1856, “how to write the story of the child, starting it since the fabulous prehistoric, and having spent it through all the impressions of life and nature, the life of mainly village”. The first unconscious impressions, unity with nature, a passionate enthusiasm for reading, knowing the world of adults and their difficult relationships - all this was reflected in the text with extreme clarity. The memories remained not part of the past for the writer, but part of the present, experienced with all the power of thought and feeling. The publication is decorated with the classic illustrations of Dementia Shmarinov, recreating the atmosphere of a long -gone era
