The work of the wonderful teacher Archpriest Alexander Sokolov (1817-1903) was published at the end of the 19th century and became perhaps one of the most popular exposures of the Bible for children in Russian. The book is an adapted for children a detailed retelling of traditional biblical plots.
The first part of the book tells about events from the Old Testament. The second part talks about the New Testament (Gospel) and includes some additional stories from church legend: the story of the introduction to the temple of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a story about the foundation of Kyiv by the apostle Andrei the First -Called, the narrative of the Assumption of the Virgin.
Father Alexander comments on biblical plots, complementing them with teachings and tips for the young generation. The narrative is primarily aimed at the children"s audience of 10 years.
The publication uses color printing and many illustrations, a wonderful gift to a believer, for a birthday, an angel day, name day and christening, for Christmas and New Year
