The name of Robert William Service, which was called in the West, called the Kipling of Polar Canada, in the twentieth century did not say much to the Russian reader: due to extremely sharp verses about the USSR, it was prohibited. Meanwhile, his first books were published in millions of circulations around the world, and the glory of the poet went far beyond his native Scotland and Canada. The power of talent of the service was such that his poems seem to be continuing Kipling"s work, and not by imitation of him: this is not a copyist, but a faithful student who stores the tradition of the teacher. The poet’s legacy is huge: almost a thousand is known for published poems. About a third of them are now offered to our reader in the translations of the participants of the Internet seminar "Age of Translation".
