The Belgian writer Maurice Meterlink wrote the first poems and stories while studying at college. However, his father, a rich notary, was against his son to become a writer. Young Maurice was forced to learn a lawyer. However, it was literature, and not the legal service made Meterlink world famous: in 1911, the writer received the Nobel Prize for his multilateral literary activity. After all, he wrote plays, poems, and essays. But the most famous is his fairy -tale play "Blue Bird".
The main characters of this book are Tiltil and Mitil, the children of the poor lumberjack. On Christmas night, an old woman is to them and asks to go in search of a blue bird. The granddaughter of the old woman is sick - and only a wonderful bird, bringing happiness, can restore her health. Tiltil and Mitil agree, and then the old woman suddenly turns into a fairy, all objects come to life, and pets are speechless.
