Anna Sewell (1820-1878) is a British writer, the author of the only work that brought her worldwide fame. This is a piercing story about the life of a horse told on its behalf. In her youth, Anna Sewell injured her leg and often went on equestrian crews. So her interest in the horses originated. In her book, she wanted to draw people"s attention to suffering, which people sometimes cause horses, show that these are living creatures, and not just a means of transportation. Her contemporaries were touched by this story and began to read a book to children to teach them a good attitude to all living things. So over time, this book began to be considered a classic of children"s literature.
The novel is published in the pre -revolutionary translation signed by the initials of E. B., the watercolor illustrations were performed by the wonderful contemporary artist Petr Lyubaev.
A crown horse named Black handsome was born on a farm belonging to a good person. The foal frolic on the meadow, listened to the instructions of his mother and did not know the worries. When he grew up, he was sold to the landowner, and the black handsome began to carry a carriage. The new owner fell in love with his humble disposition and quick wits, and the horse more than once had the opportunity to prove his devotion to him. But the landowner had to sell his horses, and a series of tests began for a black handsome man. He changed many owners, learned hard work and hardships, but, in the end, fate smiled at him and he came to good people.
