It is unlikely that the name of the English mathematician Charles Litvizh Dodgson was so popular in our time if it weren’t for two of his novels, composed by him for three girls - daughters of the Oxford dean of Henry Liddel. The story retained the date with which the adventures of Alice in Wonderland began - July 4, 1862. On this sultry day, during a boat walk along the Thames, the little companions of Dodgeson asked them to tell them a fairy tale, and Charles began to improvise. The girls liked the beginning of the story so much that the ten -year -old Alice asked her to record. Exactly three years later, in 1865, the fairy tale was published in the printing house of Oxford. On the cover stood the pseudonym Dodzhson - Lewis Carroll. Although Dodgson himself remained dissatisfied with the quality of the press of this first edition, the text of his story immediately attracted the attention of the public. A fascinating plot in the style of fantasy, about which few have heard in the 19th century, fantastic characters, unusual transformations - everything in this story was new and unusual. The impression of the book was strengthened by the magnificent illustrations of the graphics of John Tenniel. Despite the numerous reprints of Alice in the Wonderland ", these illustrations are still considered unsurpassed classics, although in the 20th century the pictures were drawn to this fantastic story, Salvador Dali, Tove Janson and other talented drawers. This publication is illustrated precisely by tenniel"s works. Like many other talented literary works, Alice gave rise to many questions and comments. Who was the prototypes of Carroll"s heroes? How did Alice reflected purely scientific issues that excited Dodzhson? A lot of studies have been published on these topics, but they fade into the background when you read to "Alice" for children. They invariably like this fairy tale. The unconditional success of the story prompted Carroll to write a sequel. "Alice in the Zlavslavra" was completed in 1871. This story, no less curious and paradoxical, also illustrated tenniels. Eight years later, the first translation of Alice in the Wonderland appeared into Russian. The story was called "Sonya in the Kingdom of Diva". It was printed in Moscow without instructing the author and translator. This rare text is included in this collection, as well as Carroll"s less well -known work - "Hunting for the Snark". In the XX century, other translations of Alice into Russian began to appear. In this collection, a translation of Alexandra Nikolaevna Rozhdestvenskaya was published. "Alice in the Zlavslavra" is given in the translation of Vladimir Alexandrovich Ashkinazi, which was printed under the pseudonym of V. A. Azov
