The work of the remarkable educator, Protoiereus Alexander Sokolov (1817-1903), was published in the late 19th century and became perhaps one of the most popular presentations of the Bible for children in the Russian language. The book is an adapted detailed retelling of traditional biblical stories for children. The first part of the book narrates events from the Old Testament. The second part tells about the New Testament (the Gospel) and includes some additional stories from the church Tradition: the story of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Temple, the story of the founding of Kiev by Apostle Andrew the First-Called, the narrative of the Dormition of the Mother of God. Father Alexander comments on the biblical stories, supplementing them with teachings and advice for the younger generation. The narrative is primarily aimed at a children's audience from 10 years old. The edition uses color printing and numerous illustrations. A wonderful gift for a believing child, for their birthday, name day, baptism, Christmas, and New Year.
