Chicory root (Zichorienwurzel) is used for gastritis, liver diseases, gallstones, spleen enlargement, and kidney diseases. Externally, a decoction of chicory is used for eczema, boils, chronic ulcers and wounds, and skin rashes. Decoction of common chicory roots is used as a cholagogue for diseases of the gallbladder, liver (including gallstone disease), kidney diseases (as a diuretic), as well as for improving digestion and increasing appetite. Decoction of chicory roots is considered effective for gastritis, dyspepsia, constipation, enlarged spleen, worm infestation, diabetes, asthenia, anemia, hysteria, itching dermatoses (eczema, neurodermatitis, itchy skin, pruritus, urticaria, seborrheic dermatitis), psoriasis, vitiligo, baldness, furunculosis, vulgar acne. Chicory roots are used as a sedative, diuretic, cholagogue and for the regulation of metabolic disorders in the body. In the form of baths, compresses and dressings, chicory root (decoction) is used for itching dermatoses, gout. Chicory preparations are used as digestive, diuretic, cholagogue, astringent, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial agents. Chicory is recommended for gastritis, gastroenteritis, hepatitis, gallstone disease, diabetes, nephritis, neurasthenia, hysteria.
Infusion, decoction of chicory is used externally for wounds, ulcers, and as compresses for boils, eczema. Chicory is used in the form of compresses for abdominal pain and gland inflammation.

Decoction of chicory roots is prepared as follows: 1 teaspoon of crushed raw material is poured with 200 ml of boiling water, boiled for 10 minutes, then strained. It is taken 1/4 cup 4 times a day.
