This book is a wonderful chess textbook for a wide audience, from players of beginner levels and above. The most important aspect of it is its author. Alexander Koblenz was a coach of the USSR national chess team for several years (including during two victorious Olympiads), and most importantly, he was Mikhail Tal's coach for many years - the brightest chess player of the second half of the twentieth century, who literally revolutionized his contemporaries' understanding of chess.
This truly encyclopedic textbook contains general knowledge about the opening, middle game, and endgame, but also examines numerous specific strategic techniques that allow one to achieve victory, different types of combinations, standard attack plans, and precise endgame positions. The examples provided are always very instructive and, as a rule, unknown to the modern reader.
The renowned coach shares in the book all the ideas that have practical value and stimulate the growth of a chess player's mastery.
