A young Chekist and a veteran of the First World War are carrying out a risky operation in the underground of Arkhangelsk, which is occupied by Americans, French, and British forces. Vladimir Aksenov is tasked with a special mission by the leaders of the Cheka and the Red Army. Following orders, he reveals himself to British counterintelligence in order to deliver a message from the Soviet government and at the same time sow discord between the allies and the White forces. The British arrest the red spy and hand him over to the White Guards, who then send Vladimir to the island of Mudjug - a concentration camp created by members of the Entente countries to eliminate opponents of the 'new regime'.
