Yuri Vasilyevich Sobolev (1887-1940) was a literary and theater critic. He held a Doctor of Arts degree and became a professor at GITIS in 1939. Since 1905, he worked as a literary and theater critic. Later on, he became a critic and historian at the Moscow Art Theatre (MHAT) and was in charge of the literary department there. Sobolev is best known as a researcher of the life and works of Anton Chekhov. He dedicated over a hundred articles to this topic. His significant contribution lies in collecting lost and unpublished pages of the writer's works and meticulously cataloging Chekhov's literature.
