In the XVIII century, the name "moral stories" was widespread. It meant a psychological, intimate story, usually with a family or love theme. But the same word could be understood as "virtuous" or "instructive". Borel understood him so. There are no teachings in his “champaver ", there is only the exposure of a modern society in which evil triumphs. In the subtitle, Booret"s book is defined as "immoral stories". This name itself indicates the irreconcilable rebellion of the author. The book is an expression of French romanticism of the era of the July monarchy. This book criticizes the love of money -grubbing, the general corruption of that time. The stories are imbued with a sense of the tragedy of modern civilization and tell about the bloody events covered with adopted decency and strictly regulated mores
