In the "Magic Mountain" of Thomas Mann there is a phrase prompting Pavel Hulle to write a whole novel called Castorp. This phrase - “Four semesters held by him (the main character of the novel by T. Mann Hans Castorop) in the Danzig Polytechnic ... " - was taken to the epigraph. Hulle lives in Gdansk (until 1918 - Danzig) The most beautiful ancient city is a full -fledged character of all his books, and it is not surprising that from his youth, according to the writer, he “composed” the events that occurred in his homeland with the hero of the Magic Mountain. Roman P. Hulle is like a chapter missed by T. Mann: experienced by Hans Castorop on Danzig land shocked an impressive young man and changed much in him. The author asked himself a difficult task: his Castorp was obliged to correspond to the Mannov image, but it was impossible to allow the narrative to fade in the shadow of the book of the great German. And Pavel Hulle, according to Polish criticism, coped with his task
