Caribbean Marriage
At the beginning of the 19th century, on the island of Saint Thomas, Rahel Pomie grows up in the family of a Jewish merchant, whose ancestors once fled Europe to escape the Inquisition. Rahel is a headstrong and independent girl who spends her days reading books in her father's library, defying her mother, and dreaming of a glamorous Parisian life. But she does not control her own destiny: when her father's business faces bankruptcy, Rahel agrees to marry an elderly widower to save her family from poverty.
After his death, she decides to tie her life to a mysterious stranger from Europe, Frederick.
He is the complete opposite of Rahel: timid, frail in health, and more fascinated by numbers than romantic adventures, and also her father's nephew. Everything was against them: differences in upbringing and temperament, public opinion. And yet their marriage took place.
The son of Rahel and Frederick is known worldwide today. His name is Camille Pissarro.
