The comprehensive study proposed in the monograph covers more than three centuries of the formation and development of the art of manuscript and printed books in the culture of the Tatars. Much attention is paid to identifying the role of symbols in the design of the Tatar book at the initial stage of the formation of this type of art. Unique artifacts are first analyzed and introduced into scientific circulation, allowing to trace the dynamics of the development of handwritten and printed Tatar book art of the 17th - early 20th centuries.
