For more than a century, from the time of the restoration of Meiji to collapse of the economic bubble of the 1990s, Japan has developed an explosive pace. However, since then she has not been able to fully respond to the globalization of the world economy.
Why does the country"s political economic system in different conditions show such different results? Kent Colder in an attempt to explain this phenomenon uses the concept of "compensation circles". They mean groups representing certain economic, political or bureaucratic interests and determine corporate and individual reactions to investment and innovation.
Colder considers how these circles act in seven areas of the economy, from food supply to the household electronics market. The result of the study is a detailed review of Japanese compensation circles and a kind of roadmap for their expansion in the future.
