The writer and journalist Joel Harris spent his whole life in the American South and from childhood heard many African-American folk tales. Their amusing characters - the clever Brother Rabbit, the simple Brother Fox, the kind Mother Midous with her daughters, and many others - come to life in the stories told by the old Uncle Remus to the boy Joel. Whether Brother Fox will finally catch Brother Rabbit, or if he will slip away again, we do not know, but each evening awaits us with a new adventure. The artist Gennady Vladimirovich Kalinovsky (1929-2006), the illustrator of this book, managed to brilliantly convey the mischievous, cunning, and worldly-wise atmosphere of these tales.
