The history of the Gulag is the history of martyrdom and broken destinies. This is the story of children who grew up without parents in prison -type orphanages. This is the story of the beast fanaticism of the executioners. This is, finally, the story of how abstract discussions about "universal happiness" turned out - through total violence - inconceivable, seemingly, in the era of social and scientific and technological progress with lawlessness, injustice and terror. The authors systematically analyze the phenomenon of the Gulag, attracting materials from various archives, and for the first time in the scientific literature, strictly on a documentary basis, reveal the mechanism of functioning of correctional labor camps. They call their work brief, believing that the history of the Gulag is inexhaustible, and avoid political assessments, allowing the reader to draw conclusions about the tragic events that have affected millions of families in our country.
