The brain consists of maps, and this is not a metaphor. Our brain is a whole atlas, and its maps describe our body, emotions, movements, and how we perceive the surrounding world through our senses. The presence of maps in the brain was discovered by scientists over a century ago, but only recently have they managed to uncover some of their secrets and realize their profound impact on our lives. The landscapes of the brain determine our way of thinking and explain why we think, feel, and act the way we do. The structure of the brain's maps is responsible, on the one hand, for the uniqueness of our personality, and on the other hand, for the commonality and mutual understanding with other people.
