The drug has an antiseptic effect. It coagulates proteins (including enzymes) of microbial cells, disrupts the permeability of the cell membrane, thereby inhibiting the growth and development of bacteria. When used externally, the drug is absorbed through damaged skin, wound surfaces, and if accidentally ingested, through the gastrointestinal mucosa. Boric acid can accumulate in the body tissues and is eliminated slowly. Indications for use: pyoderma, weeping eczema, diaper rash, acute and chronic otitis. Contraindications: increased sensitivity to boric acid, impaired kidney function, chronic mesotympanitis with normal or minimally altered mucosa, traumatic perforations of the eardrum, pregnancy or breastfeeding, for treating breast tissue, children (including newborns). Safety precautions when using: do not apply the drug to large skin areas, do not use for rinsing cavities. Avoid contact with eyes. Method of application and dosage: apply externally. For pyoderma, diaper rash, eczema, treat affected skin areas with a cloth soaked in the drug, 2-3 times a day. For otitis, insert soaked tampons into the external auditory canal or instill 3-5 drops 2-3 times a day. In case of overdose: if the drug is accidentally ingested, perform gastric lavage, administer oral saline laxatives, enterosorbents (activated charcoal), symptomatic therapy. Symptoms of acute poisoning: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, circulatory disorders and CNS depression, decreased body temperature, shock, coma, erythematous rash. In case of severe poisoning, take measures to support vital body functions, perform hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, blood transfusion. Prolonged use of the drug on large skin areas may lead to symptoms of chronic intoxication: tissue edema, exhaustion, stomatitis, eczema, menstrual cycle disturbances in women, anemia, seizures, alopecia. In these cases, discontinue the drug and provide symptomatic treatment. Side effects: the use of the drug may cause allergic reactions (skin redness, itching, hives, rash, swelling). In rare cases, anaphylactic reactions may develop, including shock and epithelial desquamation. In some patients, especially with prolonged use, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, confusion, oliguria may occur. Patients with kidney function impairment may experience seizures. Inform the doctor when using any other medications simultaneously.
