Innocent Annensky"s method, to whom he was resorted by writing an essay that included in two "books of reflections" (1906, 1909), was called intuitive, the author were accused of claims, his tongue was announced "unnecessary-misty", the selection of those - random. In the poet of the first row of the Silver Century, an outstanding connoisseur of antique and Western European poetry, wanted - since he began to reason about Russian literature - to see the criticism and tried him as criticism. And he himself called himself not "criticism", and the "reader", and his eyes on Gogol, Dostoevsky, Turgenev, Chekhov, Balmont and others were a look at the highest degree of the subjective reader. For the poet impressionist Annena thought in his essay images and associations, did not give estimates - but he created the impression that in itself is more important than any assessment. Nikolai Gumilev wrote about Innokentia Annensky: He does not feel a feeling of thought, as it happens at all at the poets, and the thought itself will grow so much that it becomes a feeling, alive to pain even. To the essay from the "books of reflections" these words are fully applicable
