Alvis Vitolins (1946-1997)-seven-time champion of Latvia, a chess player of an acute-playing style, one of the last debut innovators of the pre-staff era. In the blitz - a world -class player and a constant sparring partner of the world champion Mikhail Tal. Vitolins often used the gambets and his novelties in Sicilian defense, the Spanish party, the protection of Nimtsovich and Bogolyubov’s defense were used at the highest level, including applicants and matches for the title of world champion. Vitolins became the international master in 1980.
