Chipan Elensky (1881-1949) - Polish engineer and writer, author of popular mathematical collections "Lilavati" and "in the footsteps of Pythagoras". In our country, these books were published under the general title "in the wake of Pythagoras" and were very fond of readers. In the publishing house "swing", the translation of these collections is published for the convenience of working with a book in parts, separate volumes.
For the section of "One hundred historical puzzles" of his first mathematical book, Schepan Elensky selected the most interesting tasks, puzzles, mathematical stories and jokes of different eras and cultures. Some appeared hundreds and even thousands of years ago, others arose during the life of the author. Among them there are riddles of Chinese and Indian, Greek and Arabic, English and French, Polish and Russians. Some puzzles were created by great mathematicians, the authorship of others was lost in the thickness of times.
