FBI Agent Terry McCaleb retired early to recover from a heart transplant operation. Let other people catch serial killers now... But when certain circumstances surrounding the death of his donor, which left the police puzzled, are revealed, he decides to take a risk and conduct his own investigation. Terry immediately doubts that the life of a young woman, shot during a store robbery, was ended by a random bullet. 'Bloody Work' was awarded the 'Anthony' and 'Macavity' prizes, and in France in 1999 it received the Grand Prix de Litterature Policiere - the highest literary award for the best foreign detective novel.
In 2002, a film adaptation of Connolly's book was made at Warner Bros. Studios. The director and lead actor was Clint Eastwood.
