Bloody Libe in the last years of the Russian Empire. The process of Maidel Beilis on charges of ritual murder.
In March 1911, the boy’s bloodless body was discovered near Kyiv. Groups of the population, who have gravitated to right -wing beliefs, decided that it was a ritual murder, and the police, without direct evidence, arrested the Jew Menachem Mendel Beilis, who worked as a clerk at the factory near the crime scene. The trial of Beilis took place in 1913. The jury ultimately acquitted him, but decided that the crime has signs of ritual murder. Robert Weinberg seeks to find out why the authorities accused this particular person, and thereby discovering the extremes of anti-Semitism in pre-revolutionary Russia. Judicial materials, newspaper articles, Bailis"s memoirs and archival documents immerse the reader into the atmosphere of this famous trial
