The book "Blood and Symbols" is a review of the tradition of human sacrifices, the roots of which go back to ancient times, and numerous echoes in the form of various bloodless rituals are still preserved to this day. For readers who want to be thrilled by bloody scenes, the authors immediately warn that they tried to minimize the description of cruelties. And not all sacrifices were bloody. In many world religions, for example, there are traditions of dedicating living people to gods, who then continued to live and prosper, but already as the "property" or "spouse" of the deity. The authors aimed to show the connection between human sacrifices and the spiritual and cultural development of human communities, to trace how over thousands of years humanity slowly but surely moved towards replacing bloody rituals with spiritual ones. And how, finally, the unfulfilled human sacrifice - Abraham's attempted sacrifice of his son Isaac - laid the foundation for three great religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
