This story is about the amazing fate of the African American Frederick Bruce Thomas (1872-1928), who was born in the family of former slaves and in the 1890s went to Europe, first to England, then to France, and a little later to Moscow, where he becomes a noticeable figure in Theater and restaurant life, a millionaire, subjects of the Russian Empire and a witness to revolutionary changes. Having fled from the Bolsheviks to Constantinople, he is trying to start everything again and will be called there "Sultan Jazz" ... Thomas biography is read as an exciting novel, but is fully based on documentary evidence gleaned from American, Russian, Turkish, as well as French and English archives and presses
