The book provides descriptions of over 550 species of birds registered in the territory of the entire Siberia between the Urals and the Far East. This is the first complete illustrated bird guide of Siberia. The book consists of two volumes. The first volume (black and white) is a reference guide. It, like the second volume, is intended for field use, but it can be left in a field camp, tent, backpack, or car. This volume includes all introductory and auxiliary sections. Species sketches contain the most common synonyms, descriptions of "contact features" (when the bird is in hand), basic size characteristics (measurements), and information about the lifestyle. The second volume (color) is the main identification guide, intended for excursions. This volume contains descriptions of field features, voices, and courtship behavior. Birds are depicted in different seasonal and age plumages, in convenient angles for identification - on the ground (water), on a perch, in flight. Distribution descriptions of species are provided, along with color maps of their ranges. Characteristics of subspecies are given, many of which are illustrated. The book is intended for anyone interested in birds: ornithologists - professionals and amateurs, hunters, gamekeepers, birdwatchers, and lovers of songbirds, nature conservation workers, biology students, leaders of youth clubs and stations, biology teachers, as well as nature enthusiasts from middle school age and older.
