Saint Mitrofan is called the Guardian Angel of the Voronezh land. It was he who, during the Time of Troubles, when people lost their moral compass and the understanding of true virtue, helped them rediscover faith in God, to open and develop within themselves such inherently Christian qualities as mercy and compassion. Saint Mitrofan fought against popular superstitions, immorality, and the influence of the Old Believers, instructing the flock in the fidelity to the teachings of the Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. His efforts were rewarded with the rapid strengthening of the Church's authority.
