The book by Irina Opimakh, written in the genre of 'popular art history', is dedicated to great paintings that have forever remained in the history of culture. The author focuses on recognized geniuses of the Renaissance (Giotto, Botticelli, Bosch, Michelangelo...) as well as masters from later times - Western European (Delacroix, Renoir, Miro, Picasso...) and domestic (Brullov, Pukirev, Serov, Repin...). Each essay is a dramatic narrative about the fate of the painting and its creator, but also a story about the time in which the artist lived and worked. Writing about art in a way that is interesting not only to specialists, and at the same time not descending to the level of primitive entertainment, is very difficult. Irina Opimakh brilliantly succeeds in this. The book is addressed equally to those who understand painting and stand in long lines at museums, and to those who are taking their first steps towards art. Irina Opimakh is a writer and translator.
