Major General Yuri Ivanovich Drozdov (1925-2017) went down in history primarily as the head of illegal intelligence-the legendary and mysterious administration “C” of the first main department of the KGB of the USSR. He came to this position “loudly”, under automatic machine guns and grenade ruptures, because the first operation, which he led, was the assault on the presidential palace in the capital of Afghanistan Kabul on December 27, 1979. But why did the head of illegal intelligence lead the military operation? And why did he delete his last name from the list of participants in the assault, presented to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union?
