The book introduces the reader to the life and activities of the outstanding representative of Russian Jewry Yakov Lvovich Teitel (1850-1939) Published in Russian in Paris in 1925. Memoirs of Y. J1. Tatel for the first time become available to a wide reader audience. They give a bright picture of life in the Russian Empire of the second half of the XIX century. One of the first judicial investigators-Jewish in the public service, Teitel became a guide for judicial reform in the Russian province. A convinced humanist, he was always in a hurry to do good - he defended the powerless, helped those in need, and contributed to the formation of youth. Being in exile since 1921, J. Ji. Teitel headed the Union of Russian Jews in Germany and made a significant contribution to improving the legal status of Jewish refugees between the two wars in Europe, as well as in the rescue of Russian emigrant Jews from Germany during the Nazi regime (1933-1939) The book analyzes the contacts of Y.L. Teitel with representatives of Russian culture and the Jewish community publishes letters of Jewish emigrants of the 1935-1950s from Germany, France and the USA, photo and archival documents on the activities of organizations that Y.L. Tatytel led in Berlin, as well as Teytelevsky assistance committees in France and the United States in the post -war period.
