Hemingway was always drawn to danger, risk and secret operations. The ardent anti -fascist, he almost with painful obsession sought to participate in intelligence and battles on two continents. He was captured by the war in Spain, he traveled to China at the height of the Japanese-Chinese war, hunted German submarines in the Caribbean, took part in the liberation of Paris, and finally supported the revolution in Cuba and the coming to power of the Castro regime. Participation in these events brought impressions and served foods for creativity, but in the end it became one of the reasons for its tragic end. The author tells the full story of Hemingway"s hidden side of the life of Hemingway, about his connections with the Soviet special services and such American departments as the FBI, the State Department, the intelligence administration of the Navy and the Office of Strategic Services, the predecessor of the CIA. The book is a literary biography written in the spirit of a thriller. It significantly expands the existing ideas about the mysterious personality of dad Ham and is addressed to all admirers of his work and fans of spy stories.

Quotes
Hemingway loved the secrets and the feeling of superiority that they gave. He longed for actions, but not too good for ordinary military service. He was considered his own in different social and economic classes, and he easily moved across the boundaries. In my opinion, he had a lot in common with many representatives of the spy profession ...
As a result of many months of hard work, I began to loom in a portrait of Hemingway, who did not resemble anything before. The writer tried to participate - almost with painful obsession, in my opinion, in intelligence and in battles on two continents since 1937, that is, to the Second World War and during it.
And then I learned something amazing: Hemingway began to work for another intelligence service, which completely did not fit into the established concept of his life. This service was the Soviet NKVD, the People’s Commissariat of the Interior, the predecessor of the better famous KGB, who, despite its name, acted both in his country and beyond during the Cold War.
Foiling of Hemingway with the NKVD and the political background explaining it greatly influenced the life and work of the writer. They were reflected in many of his decisions adopted in the last 15 years of life: the choice of a place of residence, on the nature of the written works, on actions. This chain of events even played a role in his suicide in 1961.
