Thanks to the preserved memoirs of General Field Marshal, his archive, correspondence with subordinates and materials of the General Staff of Kaiser Germany, the compiler of this historical work managed to fully imagine the role of Mackenzen in the formation of the Prussian army of the last quarter of the 19th century, to show his general and diplomatic talent, in full manifested in 1914–1918, and his attitude to the socio-political changes that took place in Germany in the 1930s. Mackenzen, as a direct participant in tragic events, covers those aspects of world history, the assessment of which still causes fierce disputes
