Ay Wevei grew up in Manchuria and Xinjiang, where his father was exiled - the Chinese poet and critic of the regime ay qin. Ai moved to the United States, but was forced to return to Beijing in 1993 to take care of his father when he got sick. Much later, in 2011, he was not allowed to leave China and was kept in custody for 81 days. Ai Weiwei very early found out what it feels like to be a stranger. However, through his art, he transforms the experience of existential alien into something universal.
In 2015, he ended up in Berlin, just at a time when 80 thousand refugees came to the city at once, which prompted him to visit the refugee camps around the world and the creation of the Human Flow film (“Human Stream”.
In this book, his memories become a confession that goes far beyond art for the sake of art: a call for peaceful communication, friendliness and humanity is persistently heard in it, so now necessary.
