The violent history of Russia at each turning point gave rise to great statesmen - thinkers, ideologists, converters. Such personalities, without a doubt, include the military Minister of the Russian Empire, Count Aleksey Andreevich Arakcheev (1769-1834), whose heraldic motto was "without flattening devot." Already during his lifetime, Arakcheev became a legend. Foreigners saw in it the supreme vizier of the empire, and, according to compatriots, Arakcheev was almost a vice-mmperor. Both during the years of power, and after the death of Arakcheev, fear and hostility was equal to the "liberals" and the “conservatives". For he always stood apart and was a true symbol of autocracy. The basis of this publication is archival material: Arakcheev’s correspondence, covering the period from 1796 to 1833: 489 letters are the most extensive selection today, and the publication of historical documents. The book precedes the book a psychological portrait of the "Iron Count", created by the doctor of medicine, professor V.F. Chizh.
