In the book of a famous Russian historian and literary critic B.V. Sokolov tells about the life and work of Alexei Tolstoy during the years of the revolution, civil war and emigration. The author, using the writer"s notebooks, his essays and stories published during the period of stay in the south of Russia and in exile, is trying to reconstruct the “white” version of the continuation of the first part of the novel-trilogy “Walking through the torment”, published in exile, but destroyed by him according to ideological reasons before returning to Soviet Russia.
