For a recent student, and from February 1942 - the front -line translator Elena Kagan, Martyr City Rzhev, became a "fate, a literary name, inexplicable pain." From the then records on the go, living impressions heard from the soldiers, from the village old women and children, from captured Germans, the story "The Middle approaches" was born.
