The reader of diaries or memoirs of a famous person - a writer, politics or scientist - usually attract the scale of the author’s personality, his thoughts and assessments, subtle observations and witty statements. The records left by people are unknown are of different value: they allow you to understand what the merciful, everyday life and social practices of the broad layers of society, the culture of the silent majority were. The book “Voice from the crowd” contains the diaries of the Leningrad journalist Vyacheslav Ivanovich Tyuev (b. 1931), which he led in the 1950–1970s. V.I. Tyuev studied at LSU at the Slavic branch (in the Yugoslav group), but by the end of his training the relations of the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia detached. Knowledge of the Serbian language was not useful to the graduate, and he began to work in the many -type newspapers of Leningrad - first factory, then police, reaching the title of lieutenant colonel. Tyuyev’s book captures everyday Soviet life, the unsightly life of the collective farms of the Leningrad region is described (such observations could not penetrate the print), the attitude of “simple” people to power was recorded (in particular, Tuyev recorded jokes about Khrushchev in society) Finally, in his diaries, information about Leningrad teachers and students who later became famous literary scholars and journalists were preserved
