The life and work of the Kazan painter and engraver of Vera Vilkovsky took place against the backdrop of radical changes in the socio-political and cultural life of Russia in the early twentieth century. A student of the brilliant Nikolai Feshin, who mastered well not only the alphabet of painting, but also engraving techniques, achieved impressive results. Her name confidently entered the lists of the best masters of engraving on a tree, presented in 1927 at the epoch -making exhibition "Russian xylography for 10 years" (Russian Museum) Even earlier, Vilkovskaya participated in exhibitions and published in the almanacs of the famous graphic collective "Horseman", which determined the development of domestic avant-garde art of graphics (1920-1924) for years to come.
