Tsar John IV Vasilievich is one of the most famous figures in the history of Russia. Later it will be called formidable, although contemporaries did not know such a definition and did not use it. So who is he, the first Russian king: “Bloody tyrant”, “Despot”, who destroyed everything and killed at his whim, guided only by personal vicious inclinations? Or the “collector of the Russian land”, “a slaper of well -being”, “a strong advocate of the Christian faith, in the affairs of the state -wise, worldwide, famous, terrible victories”? John IV is noted in history by many matters. The assessment of his activity varies - there are directly opposite conclusions, but the overall result cannot be doubtful.
